Join Troop 1776

Getting Started

We encourage Scouts and their parents to visit us before joining. The Troop Membership Coordinator will assist you by providing information about the Scouts BSA program, the troop, and address any questions to you have about the program or joining paperwork (email the coordinator).

Scouts and their families are welcome to attend any of our meetings.  We typically meet on Sundays at 3:30 pm at the Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church on North Star just north of Renner.  Check the troop’s home page for Upcoming Events to make sure we have a troop meeting on the day you would like to visit.

The best way to experience Scouting with Troop 1776 is to attend one of our monthly campouts, as 75% of “Scouting” is the word “outing”.  Please check with our Scoutmaster or Committee Chair to register. Due to BSA safety guidelines, all adults camping with us must complete  YPT Online Youth Protection Training (scouting.org) and there are some activities with a minimum age (such as shotgun shooting). Dads are welcome to camp with the troop, but troop policy does not allow females (including Moms) to stay overnight.

Registration

Scouts and their parents complete the following when joining the Troop:

Adults have a separate registration form and complete the following when joining the Troop:

  • BSA Adult Application Form, including background check authorization.
  • BSA Annual Health and Medical Record  (A, B & C, which is partially filled out by Doctor)
  • Youth Protection Training (YPT) training at My.Scouting.org
  • Position specific training. For example, “Troop Committee Challenge” for committee members.
  • Adult Troop Resource Survey – not required, but will help match your talents and interests to help the boys.
  • Merit Badge Counselor Form – not required, but encouraged.  This accompanies the adult application form.

You can purchase scout uniforms at the Fairview Scout Shop. Additionally, there is a “scout closet” uniform exchange for handing down gently used uniforms from scouts who have outgrown theirs.  Ask the membership coordinator or see the Uniform Closet page.

Troop 1776 supports Circle 10 Council’s fundraisers each year. Each scout receives a portion of the profits from our fund raising activities for his own account which is used to fund his participation in Troop activities. Scouts earn 50% of their camp card sales and popcorn sales earn approximately 30% for the scout. Participation in Troop fundraising activities is entirely voluntary, but it is an opportunity for the boys to learn interpersonal, sales and money management skills, as they raise money and contribute financially to their scouting activities.

Circle 10 Council has programs to assist scouts needing financial support. Please ask the Scoutmaster, Committee Chair or Membership Coordinator if you would like information about the Scoutreach and Campership (camping scholarships) programs.
