Summer Camp at Trevor  Rees-Jones- Register Now!

June 10 - June 16, 2012

It's already time to start planning and registration for Summer Camp! Trevor Rees-Jones Scout Camp offers a wide variety of fun and challenging programs. Scouts will have the opportunity to learn new skills that will help them on their trail to Eagle. ALL FIRST YEAR scouts should plan on attending.

The camp has eleven program areas that are staffed by National Camping School certified area directors and fellow scouts. The program areas include:

  • Citizenship & Communications
  • Cope & Climbing
  • Conservation/Nature
  • Corral
  • Field Sports
  • Handicraft
  • Lake Front
  • Pool
  • Scout Skills
  • Shooting Sports
  • Trail to First Class

Cost: $220 if registered and initial payment by March 28th. Additional $15  fee for Trail to First Class Scouts for supplies. Some merit badges have additional supply charge.

May Canoe Trip May 18-20... register now...

  • Depart Friday May 18th, probably at 6:30 PM.
  • Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, Bridgeport, TX.
  • Plan a backpacking lunch for on  the water, one cold breakfast, one hot breakfast and dinner.

Rocky Mountain High Adventure Base Colorado
A no merit badge camp where we pick our own activities offered by the camp: White water river rafting, summiting a 14'er, fishing in a mountain lake, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking the Continential Divide Trail. Guides are provided by Camp when needed. Age Restrictions apply. In consideration for August 2012.

Sea Base in the Florida Keys
A scuba diving adventure: live on a 45-50 foot sail boat for a week, diving every day. Age and certification requirement. In consideration for late summer of 2012 or 2013.

Philmont
The Granddaddy of Scouting! Two weeks of backpacking in the mountains. In consideration for 2013.

National Jamboree at the Summit
BSA has a new, Brand new 10,600 acre reserve in West Virgina! This trip is already being planned. Will have a side trip to New York and Washington D.C. Age and Rank restrictions apply. July 2013.

In the last year, Scouts from Troop 1776 have:

  • Climbed Guadalupe Peak!
  • Toured Carlsbad Caverns.
  • Shot .22s, 30-06s, 12-gauge shotguns, and compound bows.
  • Gone rock climbing and rappelling.
  • Spelunked in primitive caves.
  • Hiked 20 miles in one day in the East Texas Piney Woods
  • Backpacked for over 100 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch (two crews)
  • Attended a city council meeting.
  • Learned to balance a check book and basics of managing personal finances.
  • Learned to water ski.
  • Learned to cook and clean up on campouts.
  • Completed over 100 hours of community service.
  • Mountain biked!
  • Camped in 17 degree weather!
  • Had a huge bonfire!
  • Zipped on the longest run in Texas!
  • Roped "calves", threw tomahawks, and competed in a tug-o-war at Camporee!
  • Attended the World Jamboree in Sweden!

Meetings are Sundays 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church on North Star just north of Renner.
